This book began with a simple question: "If Jesus was the best preacher ever, what did he do?" So I set out, armed with nothing more than the four gospels and my laptop and charted every preaching narrative of Jesus. The results are below:
Simply put:
60% of the time Jesus was preaching he was telling Stories
40% of the time Jesus was preaching he was asking Questions
80% of the time Jesus was preaching he was leading to Encounter
Research
The "guts" of this book were a part of a doctoral dissertation, A Renewed Homiletic for the 21st-Century Church, for George Fox University under the lead mentorship of Dr. Leonard Sweet. (Don't worry, while the book contains the theological weight of a 4-course-meal, it reads like eating ice cream!) However, for fellow nerds (like myself) I'm happy to provide the full extent of my research which includes the dissertation, full breakdown of the above chart, and bibliography.
